Bakani Pick-Up Company, founded in 2018 centres research around practice that elicits ways of being as performance through improvisation. Our aim is to continue with research at the forefront of our making, to annotate and distinguish a methodology that is elastic with curiosity. The work is about the people, what speaks to them and what it means for them to be human. It is a way of delving into the embodied experience of the audience/participant in order to affect change of our socio cultural landscape. We take a humanistic person-centred approach to practice, in doing so creating a diverse modality for choreography and dance technique.
Work is supported by Chisenhale Dance Space, The Place, Dance4, Falmouth University, Yorkshire Dance, Wainsgate Chapel, Kala Sangham Arts Centre and Arts Council England.
